CCleaner is the highly-regarded PC optimizer that has been designed to be of help to all users, from novices to experts, wisely combining ease of use with a wide range of customizable settings and parameters. It cleans up your cluttered registry from useless entries, wipes out your Internet tracks, finds and deletes duplicate files, gets rid of all junk files, etc., to boost up your system and to make it more reliable and stable.
Keeping your system clean and fit will save you from unwanted crashes and slow performance issues. CCleaner comes with all the tools you will ever need to avoid them. The program will analyze your system and disks thoroughly in a snap, and will provide you with a comprehensive report on all the temporary and junk files that you can do without. All of these files are neatly organized in various categories – some refer to specific tools and applications, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, and others to your file system, and each of them comes with the exact number of files they refer to and the KB of disk space they are taking. You can uncheck those categories whose files you have decided to keep, or let the program to wipe all unnecessary files for you.
A similar thorough scan is performed on your Windows registry. You will know at once what obsolete or wrong entries, clearly organized by file type, are clogging up your registry. The program can detect missing shared DLLs, unused file extensions, ActiveX and Class issues, help files, installers, type libraries, obsolete applications, run-at-startup entries, etc. Again, you make the final decision when it comes to which entries stay and which go.
The Disk Space Analyzer will let you know at a glance how much space your image, music, video, and text-based files are taking, and which of them are the bulkiest. Another way of freeing up disk space is by getting rid of all duplicate files sitting in different locations within your system. CCleaner’s Duplicate Finder will locate the files that are identical in size, name, modified date, and even content among a wide variety of file types and only on the selected disks. If desired you can recover an entire disk in just one go by using the program’s Drive Wiper – you can configure it to wipe the free space only or the entire contents, and apply different security levels to allow further recovery procedures, or not.
Other useful utilities include an Uninstaller, that allows you to get rid (once and for all) of any hard-to-tackle application and all its related files and registry entries, and a Startup Manager, that lets you to decide which applications should launch automatically at startup and which shouldn’t.
CCleaner is a free tool, though a professional edition exists with real-time monitoring and automatic updates, among other enhancements. This free version is, however, fully functional when it comes to performance improvement, free space recovery, and privacy protection, and it does provide faithful reports of your system’s health and does perform all the tasks described above. Given its price and its high level of performance, I see no reason why anyone shouldn’t have CCleaner installed on the system.
